- A compendium of Federal assistance programs, which are administered by departments and establishments of the U.S. Federal government. The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance is a directory of the various Federal programs, projects, services and activities that offer financial and nonfinancial assistance and benefits the American public. The role of the CFDA is to disseminate Federal domestic assistance program information, and to assist users in finding programs that meet certain objectives of prospective applicants. The CFDA is administered by the General Services Administration (GSA).
The CFDA is a one stop shop for those looking to receive assistance from the federal government, that is used to improve areas such as health, education, public works, saftey and welfare. This assistance includes both financial and nonfiancial programs.
To be included in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance, a program must be "any function of a Federal agency that provides assistance or benefits for a State or States, territorial possession, county, city, other political subdivision, grouping, or instrumentality thereof; any domestic profit or nonprofit corporation, institution, or individual, other than an agency of the Federal government."
The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance website (www.cfda.gov) is the primary means of disseminating the information.
